The story
My grandmother used to go to the pagoda to ask questions. My mother still consults our ancestorel altar in the living room. My generation types our questions into a chat window on our phones.
Our rituals may be shifting, but that longing for certainty when the world doesn’t make sense… that’s still there.

My stop motion short film Heaven Doesn’t Speak Clearly explores how technology is changing everyday life and tradition in Saigon. What if a desktop oracle listened to your question and printed your fortune? Would we still go to the temple?
The thing is, a desktop fortune teller is possible to build. So I built one.
I don’t know if the machine knows anything, but I’ve noticed people ask it different questions than they ask their phones. Slower ones.

A temple guardian for your desk, with opinions. Ask him anything out loud, he answers with a printed fortune slip, part English, part Vietnamese, closing with an old proverb to sit with. He won't tell you what to do. He'll tell you what he sees.
Twenty of him are leaving Saigon, each one finished by hand and numbered.

Your card is charged at checkout to reserve your piece in Drop 1. Each unit is assembled, hand-finished, and bench-tested in our studio through late October.
When your order is ready to ship, I’ll invoice you for the balance before dispatching domestically from our US fulfillment hub by November 30, arriving at your door in 2–5 business days via USPS.
If your balance isn’t paid within 7 days of the email, I’ll refund your deposit and release your piece. -

Probably not. The Guardian has the bedside manner of an aunt at Tết: loving, honest and completely unfiltered. If you want to hear you're doing great, ask your mom. Best for adults with a sense of humor. Kids may need a grown-up nearby to translate.

I don't store your questions or see them. They pass through OpenAI and Anthropic to write your fortune, and neither uses them to train AI. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

When you run out of fortunes, an additional 1,000 fortunes is available for $10. DM me on Instagram to purchase.

It uses standard 58mm x 30mm thermal paper rolls, sold almost everywhere receipts exist. The fortune printer ships with enough paper to last roughly 500 fortunes.

The electronics are covered for 1 year. If something stops working under normal use, I’ll fix it or send a replacement part. Drops and spilled tea aren’t covered, sadly.
